This quote may be familiar to many of you. This quote is very much in demand these days since its election time in Kerala. You vote, you get Note!
Right from the start, I am against this voting system. Yes, we need leaders. But, we need people who can lead us in the right direction. People who can be an example for the church and also those outside the church. This is not the model we see in scripture, the choosing of the disciples in Acts 1: 12-26 was by casting lots. There was two representatives, Joseph and Matthias. Matthias was elected as the lot fell on him. This shows the apostle’s trust in God. If they chose based on the profession or by appearance then it would lead to disagreement and disunity. If there are two people and if one backs out, then its well and good. But these days, who will back down? nobody wants to let others win nor is happy
We must not forget the hardships and poverty stricken days which our forefathers took in suffering our gospel. Our forefathers left everything for the sake of the gospel. There was a time when we did not have enough money to even buy food or who is living with minimal clothes due to poverty. The church leaders who are preachers of word of God seem ignorant or foolish to be driven by material positions.
By having this context in mind, how can we waste money in bringing people from different states for voting. There is a lump money given to the people who vote. I always get uncomfortable when I hear of politics because how can a person preach on giving tithe to God and at the same time give bribe to people. Either you do good or do evil; Either you are faithful or unfaithful; either you are a good shepherd or a false shepherd. It is time when we identify to which category we belong.
I always respect and salute those who are against this practice. Those who stand by the word of God unlike those who seem foolish acting or those who act ignorant.
“For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”
The scripture highlighting “all sort” means everything. You take any issue or any evil, money is the root cause of everything. Yes, we need money but that should not be wasted away because God wants it to be used for ourselves and others.
